Renewable Energys

The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) is vigorously committed to advancing its renewable energy portfolio, particularly in wind and solar with an anticipated capacity exceeding 100+ gigawatts. The primary objective is to export this substantial energy surplus to India through the proposed India-SriLanka electricity connectivity or in the form of Green Hydrogen thereby positioning Sri Lanka as a significant contributor to the global green energy landscape. Remarkably, Sri Lanka's energy demand is currently well below its renewable energy production capacity creating a unique opportunity for the nation to transition into an energy-independent and energy exporting powerhouse. The country is witnessing a surge in private investments within the renewable energy sector and realizing the ambitious goal of becoming a net energy exporter hinges upon further strategic investments.

Recognizing the pivotal role of foreign direct investments (FDI) in achieving this vision GoSL is actively seeking Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to bolster its long-term objectives. The Trincomalee Harbor has been identified as a strategic base for exporting Green Hydrogen with plans to leverage its geographic advantages and infrastructure for efficient energy transportation. Furthermore, the government is aligning its environmental commitments with global standards by accelerating its net-zero target now aiming for 2040 instead of the previously set 2050. This accelerated timeline reflects the urgency and determination to address climate challenges and position Sri Lanka as a leader in sustainable development. The convergence of private investments and a proactive government stance not only propels Sri Lanka towards energy self-sufficiency but also reinforces its commitment to global environmental stewardship.
